Rumours

A mini iPad has been rumoured for quite some time, but after Apple's third-generation tablet was released earlier this year - and with the recent iPhone conference yielding no further news - a miniature model was starting to look like less and less likely. With rumours resurfacing in the past few weeks, however, Most Wanted rounds-up everything you need to know about Apple's tiny tablet.

Design and Specs:?Most outlets have the iPad Mini's screen size at 7.85", slightly bigger than the Kindle Fire and Nexus 7. Similar to the iPad 2, it's said to be packing a?1,024 x 768 pixel resolution, which means it's tailor-made for pre-retina designed apps. ?In order to cut down on cost and size, the battery will probably run close to eight hours, although Trusted Reviews believes it will last closer to ten. Packing an A6 chip could solve any potential battery problems, all the while ensuring an ultra-fast performance. Image leaks, meanwhile, suggest it will sport an aluminium finish similar to the iPhone 5.

Price:?The iPad has always been priced at the higher end of the scale, so even though the iPad Mini will provide a budget alternative to the regular edition, it's likely to cost more than the Kindle Fire and Google Nexus 7 tablets.?Digitimes?suggests it will cost roughly ?200, while?Gizmodo?has it at ?250.

Release Date:?Apple recently sent out invitations for a conference on October 10. Depending on the source, the device will launch the following week on October 17, or a little later on November 2. Either way, the mini iPad will be available before Christmas - in the US, at least.

Name:?Branding is an important part of any tech launch, making it hard to predict a title for the new tablet. iPad Mini or Mini iPad are the obvious choices, but iPad Nano, iPad Slim and iPad Air have also been thrown into the mix.
