SANTA FE (KRQE) - Agents from the state Securities Division tracking the trail of a bogus audit raided the New Mexico Finance Authority in Santa Fe late Wednesday.
They were looking for documents and e-mail connected to producing what purported to be the NMFA's 2010 audit.
The faked document was then shown to potential investors in the bonds sold by NMFA to raise money for state and local government projects.
The superintendent of the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department, which oversees the Securities Division, said the finance authority is cooperating with the investigation and that the search warrant and raid were executed only to preserve evidence.
The NMFA and its state-appointed board have blamed a single former employee for the faking the document and allowing it to be circulated.
KRQE News 13 will have more on the progress of the investigation later today and will update this story.
